Dance Stars a dance project for children.

Dance Stars! is our newest project and one that we are very excited about at The Brain Charity. Dance Stars! will consist of neuro-physiotherapy based dance sessions for children (5-11 years old) affected by a neurological condition, which will also act as a social activity and respite service for their parents/carers.  It will also be free so anyone can join.

Each class will be planned and hosted by a neuropediatric physiotherapist and a professional dance instructor. At the beginning, each child and caregiver will be given a neuropediatric assessment before joining the group. This will allow each class to be thoroughly designed and planned out to suit everyone.

The aim of this pilot project is for us to be able to offer you a low cost and effective way of making sure that the children who wish to attend will receive treatment that will be of great value to their health. Not only that, this project is looking to reduce the social isolation that many disabled children and their parents/carers have to experience. Several studies have shown that physical activity is not only hugely beneficial to physical health but also to mental wellbeing. Attending these classes would be a brilliant opportunity to meet new friends and build relationships with others who understand the challenges that you go through.

There are many outcomes we wish to see from this project. One of them being that the children who attend with be able to live a much better quality of life. Their mobility will improve and their co-ordination skills will get better as will their ability to become more social with other children, but also more independent and develop a better sense of wellbeing health. Another being that both the children and their caregivers will continue to increase their social skills and friendships with each other as the sessions go on.
