Wheelchair access on the Wizard narrow boat
News

The Wizard is a specially adapted wheelchair accessible narrow boat, owned and run by Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP).

It comes complete with ramps, a passenger lift and accessible toilet. Warrington Disability Partnership began running day trips on the Wizard narrow boat in 2005 with the aim of giving disabled people, their carers, family and friends access to a day trip on a canal narrow boat holding up to 10 passengers. It has since had a total re-fit and been given a whole new look.

The Wizard is crewed by WDP’s experienced volunteers who strive to make each trip a friendly, relaxing and memorable cruise – meaning that passengers can fully enjoy their day afloat on the peaceful Bridgewater canal knowing that the crew have everything looked after.

Trips usually start from Thorn Marine, near the London Bridge pub, Stockton Heath, Warrington. Passengers are then taken along the canal to their stop of choice before making the return trip back to Thorn Marine. Some of the most popular trips are Lymm village, The Barn Owl Pub for lunch or Phoenix Park Runcorn.
