It can be tough on us all right now to not have any physical contact with our families, friends and loved ones, and it’s easy to feel isolated from the world, but staying in touch virtually can help you feel more connected and it’s never been easier to do!

There are lots of options to chat with people using a smartphone, tablet or computer and ‘seeing’ someone on a video call recreates the person-to-person experience that can give your mental well-being a real boost.

Having the opportunity to see someone’s facial expressions and body language makes it feel very real, and being able to not only chat to one person at a time but with a group of friends, or your whole family if you wish, can really make your day.

One of our volunteers, for example, is making the most of the lockdown period by having virtual coffee mornings and lunches with friends as well as hosting evening book club get-togethers with a glass of wine! The possibilities are endless in the virtual world…

With this in mind The Brain Charity have now started a ‘virtual’ fortnightly coffee morning, weekly bingo and a quiz night. A make your own cosmetics class has also started online and there are more classes and activities planned in the coming weeks including a “Pub Night In’! Check our online calendar for details of all these and more. Click on an individual event for details of how to join in.

Technology can really help you can stay in touch with everyone and, although not the same as the real thing, it can be done from the safety and comfort of your own home until we can all get together in person again.

Here are some of the readily available options that enable you to virtually interact with others:
