How we work with funders
We are immensely grateful for the support of all our funders, and the extraordinary impact that their grants have on our projects.
The importance of grant funding to The Brain Charity
As a non-profit organisation, trusts and foundations’ support is always needed to help run both our day-to-day operations and our specialist projects.
We are always seeking core, unrestricted funding to maximise the impact of The Brain Charity’s services, as well as restricted grants to support specific areas of our work.
Each year, we provide social and creative activities, emotional support and free counselling, and practical information and advice to thousands of clients, and our services are highly in demand.

Trusts and foundations are essential partners in enabling us to meet these demands and fulfil our mission and values.
Does The Brain Charity receive any government or NHS funding?
We are an independent charity, and whilst we do occasionally receive government or NHS funding for specific projects, these are secured through applications to competitive schemes.
We are not guaranteed funding by any schemes, therefore we rely on the support of a range of different Trusts and Foundations, whatever their size, to achieve our goals.
How we work with grant funders and trusts
At The Brain Charity, we value our relationships with our funders, both locally and nationally. We provide regular meetings, dedicated contact, grant reports and letters to certify them of the impact of their donations.
To evaluate the need and outcomes of our services, we conduct regular studies, surveys and interviews with our clients. We collect vital information and up to date statistics to ensure we can keep doing what we know works, and improving where we can.
For guaranteed efficiency and accuracy, all data is collected via our robust Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. This allows us to carry out essential data analysis, which helps us ensure that our service delivery is always of the highest quality, and demonstrate its success to our stakeholders. Our CRM and Privacy Policy also certify GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) compliance by keeping information secure. We track both hard and soft outcomes, depending on the service being accessed.

Examples of hard outcomes:
- Welfare benefit application outcome.
- Employability clients receiving job offers or interview invites.
- Counselling: Percentage change in scores for depression and for anxiety.
Examples of soft outcomes:
- Clients experiencing increased levels of confidence.
- Clients feeling more able to manage their health condition.
- Clients experiencing less loneliness.
We regularly request feedback from our service users, particularly after the implementation of a new service. Our priority is always the wellbeing and happiness of our beneficiaries, and this feedback is incredibly necessary in directing our focus and energies to where it is most needed. Keeping lived experience at the heart of what we do
Around 40% of our staff members are neurodivergent, so the understanding of our clients’ experience is more personal – and as a Disability Confident employer, we ensure to support our staff, making workplace accommodations where needed. We also pride ourselves in the involvement of volunteers, with 85 regular volunteers giving their time to our charity.
Thank you to our recent funders
