Another year of growth for The Brain Charity

Watch our new annual report video

It’s been another year of growth for The Brain Charity, with our income almost trebling over the last seven years.

For the financial year April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024 the charity brought in income of £1.8 million, a rise of 13%.

This matched our expenditure, which was £1.79 million – with £1.4 million of this spent on delivering front line services, an increase of £100,000 on the previous year.

These are just some of the statistics highlighted in The Brain Charity’s annual report, which has now been published.

Once again, we have created a video-based annual report so that this is accessible to as many different people as possible.

The Brain Charity’s annual report also shares other achievements, such as:

  • An increase in delivery of our counselling service by an additional 260 sessions compared to last year – to a total of 2,672 sessions delivered to 334 clients.
  • The opening of our Neuro Gym, which inducted 97 clients who have taken part in 671 workouts and 109 activity sessions.
  • The expansion of our Neurodiversity in the Workplace training, which brought in £140,000 compared to £25,000 the year previously. More than 280 courses were delivered, with nine in 10 participants saying their confidence in creating inclusive environments for neurodivergent people had improved.
  • Income from our generous supporters donating, fundraising and leaving money in their wills rose by £143,000 to nearly £500,000 – an increase of 30%.

You can watch our main video, featuring our CEO Pippa Sargent and filmed by The Guide Liverpool, below.

Looking forward to the current financial year, we hope our income will stay steady at around £1.8 million again this year.

A key priority for The Brain Charity is to continue supporting clients through the difficulties we are currently seeing a lot of people facing, which include the cost of living, navigating the social care system and long waiting times to get a diagnosis.

This means that strengthening funding streams for The Brain Charity’s core services, such as our Information and Advice team and our free counselling, is important.

Of equal importance is playing our part in the wider movement to improve the lives of people with neurological conditions on a national scale.

Last September, we held a parliamentary event for the launch of our ‘It’s All In Your Head’ report which engaged with 28 MPs.

As part of this, The Brain Charity is currently supporting The Neurological Alliance’s #BackThe1in6 campaign.

This movement recently celebrated a huge win after the Government announced it would launch the first ever UK-wide forum to address gaps in treatment, care and support for people affected by neurological conditions.

Please email hello@thebraincharity.org.uk or call 0151 298 2999 if you would like to request our annual report in any other format or language.

Thank you for supporting The Brain Charity.
