‘Life-changing’: 100% of coaching clients report confidence boosted
We've helped 578 people improve their confidence since 2019
Living with a neurological condition can be challenging. It can affect movement, emotions, and thinking, making everyday life more difficult.
These challenges can lower self-confidence, making it harder to adapt, communicate, and stay independent. Chris Hawkins, a 3D artist, diagnosed with ADHD understands this firsthand. Chris said:
“When I first arrived at The Brain Charity, I told them I’ve had issues with confidence when it comes to interviews, applying for work, and hesitation.
“I struggled with not putting applications in, even though I know I’m technically skilled enough for the positions.
“I wouldn’t put the application in because I’d think maybe there’s something wrong, or maybe I won’t be able to do it, or maybe I’ll burn out.”
A survey of 121 Brain Charity clients showed 67% experienced low confidence due to their neurological condition. This highlights the need for projects like our Value of You confidence coaching to help people regain confidence and independence. If they have had to take time away from work due to their condition, it can help them make steps towards returning to employment.
Since 2019, the Value of You project has supported 578 clients with confidence coaching. Last year, 100% reporting improved confidence and self-esteem, seeing an average score increase of 4.1 (out of 10) between their first and last session.
A path to confidence
Our Value of You coaching helps people rebuild confidence and take steps toward employment. We use a well-rounded approach to support each person’s unique needs.
One-on-one sessions provide a safe space to discuss challenges, develop coping skills, and set goals. Group sessions help people connect, share experiences, and learn from each other. Our coaching is personalised, offering exercises and plans tailored to each person’s situation.
Employment coaches guide participants through job searching, interview skills, and finding suitable work. This course is part of The Brain Charity’s wider support network, including counselling, social activities, and physical exercise programmes. Thanks to this support, 54% of Value of You participants made significant progress toward employment, with 28 securing jobs and 33 taking up volunteer roles.
Success stories
Our Value of You coaching has made a profound impact on participants, helping them build confidence and feel more positive about their future.
Chris’s experience is testament to this. He found the coaching particularly helpful in understanding and managing his ADHD, a common challenge for many with neurological conditions.
Chris, who was diagnosed with ADHD two years ago, said:
“I’ve actually seen the broader picture of my condition now – the bigger picture of how ADHD can lead to patterns. It makes a lot of sense.
“Hearing ways to recognise patterns and act on them so I don’t freeze up or hesitate has been very helpful. It’s also helping with actually putting in applications for work, which is something I’ve always struggled with.”
Chris isn’t the only participant of our Value of You coaching that had positive things to say.
One participant shared: “It was life-changing! Amazing! Thank you!” Another reflected: “I feel accepted and like I belong.”
While another said: “I think this has been one of the best courses I’ve been on for years, even better than NHS mental health services I have ever been offered. Clearly explained, friendly, relatable, very caring, and gave a safe space to talk. Thank you so much!”
A third remarked: “I have changed already! And will continue to work on changing my attitude towards myself. I am astounded at how much I have achieved in such a short length of time. Thank you!”
And another said: “This course needs to be available more widely as it is absolutely life-changing. I’ve been on many similar courses, but I’ve never experienced anything as brilliant. More funding needed please.”
The coaching also supports mental well-being, reducing isolation and anxiety. Many have achieved personal and professional goals, including securing jobs, pursuing education, and engaging in volunteer work.
One participant noted: “I feel heard and valued after attending the sessions and can visibly see improvements in others’ well-being too.”
While another said: “I feel I have a ‘you can do this’ approach. Long may it continue!”
Beyond personal growth, the Value of You has empowered individuals to take meaningful steps towards employment, training, and education.
In fact, 83% of participants reported feeling more positive about pursuing these opportunities after engaging in the coaching. Participants praise the workshops for their impact.
One described them as: “Meaningful, thought-provoking workshops! I feel so inspired!”
Another shared: “The workshop has motivated me to improve myself and be more self-aware.”
These powerful stories demonstrate the real change that Value of You coaching brings to people’s lives, equipping them with confidence, skills, and a renewed sense of purpose.
