Volunteer your time to support The Brain Charity

Volunteering opportunities at The Brain Charity

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with The Brain Charity. We are truly heartened by the incredible response we’ve received from people like you, who are eager to make a difference in the lives of those affected by neurological conditions.

At this time, we are we are actively seeking skilled individuals with a can-do attitude to join our team in the following roles:

Role title: Gardening and Groundskeeping Volunteer (Centre-based)

Responsible to: Volunteer/Activities Co-ordinator & Operations Manager

Summary of role description:

The outside of our charity has a small gardening/seating area with planters and couple of raised beds. It is a work in progress but has a lot of potential! We are hoping to fill it with plants this coming spring.

However, we need more green-fingered gardeners and great groundskeepers to help create a beautiful green, clean space where clients and volunteers can get involved with gardening activities, or just sit and enjoy the space!

The garden area is next to our car park. We always need volunteers to keep the outside looking as welcoming as possible, and litter free. Rubbish tends to blow in from the surrounding areas and weeds around the whole area constantly need to be kept in check. There is the opportunity to be creative and plan how you might like the area to look, or just simply help out with regular maintenance tasks.

What you need to be able to do:

  • Be proactive and ask the volunteer coordinator (or other person) for the tools to work outside
  • Help out with planting and plant care/maintenance
  • Source cheap/free plants (expenses
  • reimbursed) to plant out appropriately within planting seasons
  • Litter pick around the car park and garden area
  • Wear appropriate clothing for the weather
  • Be flexible to the needs of the centre on the day
  • Clear weeds and water plants (appropriately)
  • Report any dangerous items and not pick up any hazardous objects

What would be desirable:

  • Be able to offer gardening advice/skills
  • Source plants and tools when needed
  • To be physically able to move large objects, dig, or operate other tools and machinery
  • To offer DIY skills, woodwork, painting and wood maintenance

General volunteer recruitment temporarily paused

Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications we have received, we must temporarily pause our general volunteer recruitment process to ensure we can properly review and integrate all our new volunteers.

Why the pause?

We believe in providing a meaningful and organised experience for our volunteers. To achieve this, we need to take some time to process current applications and ensure that all new volunteers are given the necessary support and training.

The Brain Charity is proud to have been awarded The Queens Award for Voluntary Service

When will recruitment reopen?

We anticipate reopening our volunteer recruitment soon. Please check back with us then, or sign up for our newsletter to receive the latest updates directly to your inbox.

Stay connected:

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this period. Your support and willingness to contribute mean a lot to us, and we look forward to welcoming new volunteers soon.
