We’re excited to share that we currently have two volunteer opportunities open:
Role title: Finance Volunteer (Qualified or Part-qualified)
Location: Norton Street, Liverpool
Responsible to: Head of Finance and Volunteer Coordinator
Indirectly represents The Brain Charity as a whole.
Summary of role description:
Our finance team is small and made of up a Head of Finance and 2 part-time finance staff.
This role is ideal for those who are qualified in finance and accounting and want to perform a practical, hands-on role. You will need to have experience of accounting software packages (we use Sage), month-end processing, month-end reporting, annual financial statements and, of course, be highly numerate.
The applicant will need to have a good knowledge of Excel.
You will have an eye for detail and be able to pick up tasks quickly and work unsupervised.
Some of the responsibilities may include:
- Standard month-end processing, including accruals, prepayments and deferred income
- Fixed Asset accounting
- General assistance with the month-end management accounts, reporting and analysis
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Assistance with the year-end audit and audit queries
- Continued process improvements and Sage automation
We are hoping to welcome a Finance Volunteer who can support us for one full day each week. This regular commitment will help us ensure continuity and provide valuable assistance to our finance team in delivering essential services efficiently.

Role Description
Role Title: Administrative Assistant Volunteer for The Brain Charity’s Value of You project
Base: The Brain Charity, Norton Street, Liverpool, L3 8LR
Responsible to: Activities and Volunteer Coordinator
About The Brain Charity
Life for any of us can change in an instant. Experiencing a road traffic accident, a major stroke or being diagnosed with dementia can happen completely unexpectedly and can change our lives forever.
There are hundreds of different neurological conditions including stroke, brain tumour, brain injury, Alzheimer’s and many rarer ones too.
The Brain Charity offers emotional support, practical help and social activities to anyone with a neurological condition and to their family, friends and carers.
About the Role
As an Administrative Assistant Volunteer for The Brain Charity’s Value of You project, you will support our team in delivering personalised services that empower clients to recognise and achieve their potential. This role is vital in ensuring our operations run smoothly, helping clients access the support they need to pursue employment, education, training, or self-employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general administrative support to the Value of You team.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, courses, and placements.
- Assist with scheduling appointments, workshops, and improving confidence.
- Support preparation of workshop materials, client resources, and communications.
- Answer phone calls and respond to basic enquiries from clients and partners.
- Assist with basic data entry and database management.
- Liaise with other departments to ensure accurate referral and aftercare processes.
Skills & Requirements
A clear DBS check (to be arranged before starting).
Two references.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with basic computer programs (Word, Excel, email, database systems).
Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Friendly, approachable, and professional manner.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
